Bluegrass Urban Wood Products are: - Environmentally
responsible. All our wood is harvested from large old trees in the
streets and yards of central Kentucky and on the famous horse farms
surrounding Lexington. Many of these trees are reaching the end of
their natural lives or have been knocked down by storms or construction
projects. These trees would be destined for the landfill or the
firewood pile if we did not reclaim them.
- Eligible for LEED credit. Our wood products earn multiple LEED credits in the Materials and Resources category. Contact us for more details on how our materials earn LEED credit.
- Beautiful.
Our products are exceptionally beautiful, often having more interesting
figure than forest-grown wood. Our careful harvesting and milling
retains the natural beauty of the wood.
The Process: - Harvesting.
We only harvest trees that are in decline or need to be removed for
construction. We work with local arborists to select the best logs and
harvest them carefully to avoid damage to the landscape.
- Milling. We convert the logs to rough lumber with our Lucas Mill, which can handle large logs. We saw on-site or move the logs to our mill site.
- Processing.
All wood is kiln dried, stored and milled in a family-owned and
operated mill in rural eastern Kentucky. Kiln-dried wood and finished
products are stored in a humidity-controlled building. Orders to our
customers are shipped direct from the mill.
Flooring.
All flooring is tongue & groove in planks from 2 to 8 inches and is
typically provided random width and random length. Specific widths
available on request. All our flooring is custom made to order from red
oak, with other species available on request. - Select
Flooring. Our select red oak flooring is the highest quality with
interesting figure and is mostly clear. Small tight knots and other
minor defects may be present.
- Select Quarter Sawn
(Vertical Grain). This boldly figured red oak wood is mostly clear.
Small tight knots and other minor defects may be present.
- Street
Grade. Trees with street cred show the signs of rough urban life,
including unusual coloring, odd figure and other signs of a hard life.
Other Products:
We can produce custom millwork, cabinetry or furniture to order,
working with the highly skilled woodworkers of eastern Kentucky.
Species available include oak, maple, walnut, elm and sycamore, with
other species occasionally available. | |
