Air excavation removes soil using large volumes of high-pressure air. As the air stream reaches twice the speed of sound, it fills the pore spaces - pulverizing and relocating the soil. Several inches of soil are moved at a single pass. Tree roots, pipes, and other items without the porosity of soils are unaffected by the air stream. Speed of excavation is dependent on the volume and pressure of air flow, the size of the nozzle, and the structure and moisture content of the soil.

These hand-held tools are fast, highly effective and user-friendly. They excavate quickly and effortlessly even in rocky and heavy clay soils; yet they won't harm non-porous materials such as roots, PVC, or fiber optics. Air tools can be operated by one person using a standard portable air compressor. They come in two sizes and in both stainless steel and aluminum construction.
